Medical Malpractice Testimonial
My name is Jill Annis, and I am a middle school librarian. This is my 28th year of teaching. on September 12, 2019, I went in for a breast biopsy. While I was in surgery, a fire broke out in the operating room.
The last thing I remember was being taken into the operating room. When I woke up, I couldn’t see because my eyes were swollen shut. I had a ventilator down my throat, and I was restrained to the bed.
The problem with the hospital was that they wouldn’t tell us the root cause analysis of what caused the fire. after everything that happened, I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was having trouble sleeping, and I had to start seeing a psychiatrist. Before this, I had never been on medication for depression or anxiety.
I think a large part of my struggle came from not knowing how the fire actually started and feeling like the hospital was not taking responsibility for what happened.
We knew we needed to find a lawyer to help us because the hospital was clearly not going to take responsibility or admit fault for what happened. i just wanted to find someone who could help me, and I was ultimately pointed in the direction of Justin. I don’t understand the legal system, so I needed someone who did and who could guide me through the process.
There are people like Justin who can help when you’re injured or when something traumatic happens. But you also need to lean on your friends, your family, and the people around you. Don’t give up, and allow yourself to rely on the support systems you have as well.
I felt relieved knowing that someone like Justin could walk me through the entire process taking my text messages when I was panicking, answering my phone calls, and spending time explaining everything to me. when you’re injured, it affects every part of your life — your work, your family, and your mental well-being. You need to be pointed in the right direction and know who you can turn to for help.
Justin gave me guidance that went far beyond just legal advice. He had recommendations for people I could talk to, resources I could use, and ways I could get help. He was more than just a lawyer. and I knew I wasn’t going to let the hospital get away with what happened. I was the third person who had experienced a fire in the operating room at that hospital, and I did not want it to happen to a fourth person.
A great way to reach us!
