If You’re Already in the Hospital – Good.
Here’s Exactly What to Do Next From Your Phone.
What To Do
You're in the right place for medical care. Follow these steps right now to protect your legal case and maximize your compensation:
-
Do NOT give a recorded statement to any insurance company (yours or theirs) until you speak with an attorney. Politely tell them "My lawyer will contact you."
-
Ask a friend or family member to go photograph the accident scene and vehicles if possible (damage, skid marks, road conditions, traffic signs). Even a few photos taken later can help tremendously.
-
Get the police report number from the officer who responded or call the police department non-emergency line and request it. Write it down.
-
Ask every doctor, nurse, or provider treating you to clearly document that your injuries are from a motor vehicle collision. This is critical.
-
Keep every piece of paper they give you – discharge instructions, bills, wristbands, etc. Take photos of them with your phone if needed.
-
Start a simple note on your phone: write down what you remember about how the crash happened while it's fresh (don't post it anywhere – just for your records).
-
Contact HY Attorneys for a free case review before you leave the hospital or sign anything. We handle all the insurance calls so you can focus on healing. No fees unless we win.
What To Do
You're getting the medical care you need. Here's what to do right now from the hospital to protect your workers' compensation and possible third-party claim:
-
Tell every doctor and nurse treating you: "This happened at work." Make sure they write it clearly in your chart. This single step is the foundation of your claim.
-
Notify your employer immediately that you've been injured on the job (call or text your supervisor or HR). Do it in writing if possible – even a simple text works.
-
Ask your employer for the workers' compensation insurance information and claim number (they are required to give it to you).
-
Do NOT give a recorded statement to your employer's workers' comp insurance adjuster without talking to a lawyer first. You can politely say "I'm still receiving treatment – my attorney will follow up."
-
If a company nurse or adjuster visits you in the hospital, be polite but do not sign anything or agree to anything until you speak with an attorney.
-
Save every hospital document, bill, and wristband. Take photos with your phone if you're worried about losing paperwork.
-
Contact HY Attorneys today for a free review – many work injuries also allow a third-party lawsuit (against someone other than your employer) that can be worth far more than workers' comp alone. You pay nothing unless we recover money for you.
